Step into the rich drinking heritage of Newcastle with this relaxed, guide-led beer and bar snacks tour through the heart of the city centre. Over approximately 3.5 hours, you’ll follow a carefully planned route linking some of Newcastle’s most characterful independent pubs—places where the ale is kept well, the bars have stories etched into the woodwork, and the atmosphere rewards those who appreciate tradition, craftsmanship, and good company.
Along the way, your knowledgeable guide will bring the city’s brewing past to life, sharing tales of Newcastle’s historic breweries, the rise of the public house, and the colourful characters who have propped up these bars over the centuries. You’ll hear stories from some of the city’s best-known pubs, learning how they survived changing tastes, industrial shifts, and the march of modernity while still pouring excellent beer today.
Each stop features samples of quality ales, paired with a variety of hearty, well-chosen bar snacks from truffle and parmesan chips to traditional homemade scotch eggs. The pace is unhurried, allowing plenty of time to savour each drink, enjoy conversation, and soak up the distinctive atmosphere of each venue. The tour welcomes all those who value proper ales, good food, and an authentic Newcastle experience.

Our journey winds along Chillingham Road and Heaton Road, two parallel arteries of the community where cafés, restaurants, bakeries, and neighbourhood eateries sit shoulder-to-shoulder with vintage shops, bottle bars, and family-run grocers. It’s an area that has grown into one of the city’s most exciting food destinations.
Each stop on the tour has been handpicked for its individuality and passion. One of our visits is to a restaurant offering elevated dining in a warm, neighbourhood setting that captures Heaton’s spirit perfectly and contributes to the relaxed feel of this modern tour.
